I had surgery on my left lung on the 4th of september this year. 20th of September my right lung collapsed too, the xray showed 70% collapse, they aspirated me, then put a chest tube in me and that did the job.

I have a consultation on tuesday with the doc, its looking likely that I will have to have surgery on the right lung too. I am really scared as I have already experienced the pain from the first surgery and dont know it I will be able to live my life to the full after this second op Sad

My left was my first. Just treated with a chest tube for 5 days. 5 years later if collapsed again and was treated with mechanical VATS. Less then a year from that surgery date my right lung collapsed. Spent 4 days in the hospital with a chest tube and that failed and had the mechanical VATS done on the right. It has been two years this Feb since my last surgery.

It was about 6 weeks between my first and second collapses (same side). I had surgery right after the second one and have been holding steady since then, almost 16 months ago.

After that I had another 5 and surgery on both sides.

Fingers crossed that he is ok and remains healthy.

All the best

My recurrence was after 3 months. 1st SP in Sept was 100% collapse of RT lung with effective chest tube treatment. 2nd SP in Dec was 70-80% collapse of same lung with VATS and chem+mech pleurodisis. Back to work after 4 weeks, started light yoga after 6 weeks, getting ready to play golf when the weather breaks! Very Happy

I just joined and was surprised to find this site. I had my first SP around 1987 in November (31yrs) on the left side. I relapsed about 7 months later and had a pleurectomy. No VATS back then so I was practically cut in half and had my lung attached to the chest wall. I now realize I have had many SP's during the last 22 years. I woke up on December 12th with your typical back pain that can only be described as being stabbed in the back and knew exactly what it was! This time they put in a pigtail and was released from the hospital after a week. 1 month later I went to the surgeon for a follow up and X-ray and it showed a relapse. I went back in the hospital and had a peurodesis done with doxicycline (very painful!) keeping my fingers crossed...but not really feeling so hot today! Sad

First collapes 3 years ago, followed by 3 recurrences then surgery a month after my first one. Recurrence 6 months after my first occurrence then another 1 year after my first one. Then, two years without a recurrence and two months ago i had 2 more recurrences and had another, bigger surgery 2 weeks ago to the day (thoracotomy/pleurectomy). I'm video blogging my prep through recovery of this surgery so check it out at http://brainchocolateblog.com

I mention it in almost every post i write but it's something I really wish I had before my VATS three years ago so I hope you get a lot out of it. I'd love to hear from you guys there too--worries, questions, suggestions, experiences, things you do differently, etc.
